There is an island in the waters of Lesotho’s Mohale Dam.
Located along the Senqunyane River, the Mohale Dam is the second largest dam of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP)[i] and at 145m high and 620m long, it is the highest rock-fill concrete faced dam (CRFD) on the continent[ii]. This engineering feat is a part of Africa’s largest water transfer scheme[iii]. An absolute must-see, the dam is an unequaled exhibition of the abilities of man to carve out stellar landscapes and views; and its island – a serene reminder that nature has been doing so all along.
